The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation released a new report, “Hiring in the Modern Talent Marketplace.” The report demonstrates that employers and hiring managers are preparing for a world where competencies – not degrees – are the most important factors when filling a job. The findings show that employers are working with higher education to align what is taught in the classroom with the needs of the economy.

The TPM Upskill Academy, developed with grant support from Walmart as part of its Retail Opportunity Initiative, will build on existing TPM resources to support employers in improving the skills of incumbent employees and preparing them for success in new and changing roles.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced today additional support for the Job Data Exchange (JDX), an effort to help employers and their HR technology partners more clearly communicate hiring requirements in a rapidly changing talent marketplace. These new funding partners are Lumina Foundation, Schmidt Futures, and Walmart. Google.org and JPMorgan Chase & Co. previously announced their support for the project.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced today the next phase of the Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) initiative, the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s signature workforce development initiative. With a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the U.S. Chamber Foundation is leading the efforts on statewide TPM Academies. Michigan, Tennessee, and Kentucky have been selected to host these programs. Over the past four years, the TPM Academy has grown into a community of over 300 employers across 21 states.

The paper, entitled “Quality Pathways: Employer Leadership in Earn and Learn Opportunities,” highlights the importance of employer leadership in developing a growing workforce that meets the needs of a modernizing United States economy.
